Down Time

Meanwhile, the other half of the band rested up for today’s action by spending the past couple days mostly prone and in front of a television set with an ample DVD supply care of our other Helsinki guide, Jenni.

Presumably, our on-board experience will come in handy, as tonight’s venue, Waiski, is a boat. Not the first time that the band has played on a ship: Last year, the band lived and performed aboard the SS Innvig, a theatre ship parked in Oslo’s harbour. So, Subs are one of the few (only?) Chinese bands that have already conquered both land and sea. Ahoy!

The rhythm section and I spent our day off well: In the company of Cap’n Jani (he of Sounds Like Suomi fame) aboard the good ship Venla:
After a day (Monday) spent perusing Helsinki’s flea markets and second-hand shops (the rhythm section seems to have an insatiable appetite for OPP, though I will say that I partook in the shopping, albeit with much less gusto that the dynamic duo), it was nice to take to the high seas and roam in and around the islands off Helsinki. Even with A Dong behind the wheel (though he didn’t have Jani’s skilled feet).
And Zhu Lei proved a more than capable deckhand (here, before and after the onboard celebrations):
